Mazmur 26:1

Psalm 26 ¹

26:1 Vindicate me, O Lord,

for I have integrity, ² 

and I trust in the Lord without wavering.

Mazmur 27:4

27:4 I have asked the Lord for one thing –

this is what I desire!

I want to live ³  in the Lord’s house ⁴  all the days of my life,

so I can gaze at the splendor ⁵  of the Lord

and contemplate in his temple.

Mazmur 35:19

35:19 Do not let those who are my enemies for no reason ⁶  gloat ⁷  over me!

Do not let those who hate me without cause carry out their wicked schemes! ⁸ 

Mazmur 35:27

35:27 May those who desire my vindication shout for joy and rejoice!

May they continually say, ⁹  “May the Lord be praised, ¹⁰  for he wants his servant to be secure.” ¹¹ 

Mazmur 91:15

91:15 When he calls out to me, I will answer him.

I will be with him when he is in trouble;

I will rescue him and bring him honor.

Mazmur 126:2

126:2 At that time we laughed loudly

and shouted for joy. ¹²

“The Lord has accomplished great things for these people.”

[26:1]  ¹ sn Psalm 26. The author invites the Lord to test his integrity, asserts his innocence and declares his loyalty to God.

[26:1]  ² tn Heb “for I in my integrity walk.”

[27:4]  ³ tn Heb “my living.”

[27:4]  ⁴ sn The Lord’s house. This probably refers to the tabernacle (if one accepts Davidic authorship) or the temple (see Judg 19:18; 1 Sam 1:7, 24; 2 Sam 12:20; 1 Kgs 7:12, 40, 45, 51).

[27:4]  ⁵ tn Or “beauty.”

[35:19]  ⁶ tn Heb “[with] a lie.” The Hebrew noun שֶׁקֶר (sheqer, “lie”) is used here as an adverb, “falsely, wrongfully” (see Ps 38:19).

[35:19]  ⁷ tn Heb “rejoice.”

[35:19]  ⁸ tn Heb “[do not let] those who hate me without cause pinch [i.e., wink] an eye.” The negative particle is understood in the second line by ellipsis (see the preceding line). In the Book of Proverbs “winking an eye” is associated with deceit and trickery (see 6:13; 10:10; 16:30).

[35:27]  ⁹ tn The prefixed verbal forms in v. 27a are understood as jussives (see vv. 24b-26).

[35:27]  ¹⁰ tn The prefixed verbal form is taken as a jussive, “may the Lord be magnified [in praise].” Another option is to take the verb as an imperfect, “the Lord is great.”

[35:27]  ¹¹ tn Heb “the one who desires the peace of his servant.”

[126:2]  ¹² tn Heb “then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with a shout.”

[126:2]  ¹³ tn Heb “they said among the nations.”
